It is nice to spice it up once in a while and not glug down on the 'lazy-brain' film that is so readily on tap.ĥ bags of popcorn for this one, and 2 space slushies. I also feel (bias intended) we can do with more storytelling like this. I know (objectivity intended) this is mimicry to how Asimov wrote. Sometimes it can make you feel like you are left in the dark with the mechanisms of the narrative only showing themselves in glimpses here and there. The time jumps are easy to follow enough, but I can imagine some people getting lost midway.
It doesn't regurgitate an expected sequence of events like many series of our time.
This series isn't for those who don't know how to engage with a narrative and make connections. Besides most of the "Top Critics" hailing from generic media, I say that most of these reviews are a sign of the times more than an objective remark on this series. In this day and age, everyone expects a quick emotional hit of dopamine, and are impatient when they don't have their way, or their expectations aren't met. There are a number of reviews that suggest it to be "cold and mathematical" you know that Kubrick's 2001 was also described as such. Honestly I was enthralled by this sci-fi series.
If you don't know the books you may like it (but the overly emotional, mostly dumb characters and the horrible dialoges may be a thing for you as well)īut the fans of the universe should approach with caution, you may throw your TV out the window at some point. Did the writers read the books at all? Or just snorted some coke and thought 'I know that better?' Demerzel.? It is completely against the whole universe Asimov was building. What made my eyes tick, is the shameless and ridiculously low quality rewrite of the story and the characters, motivation. So be it, artists may have their freedom with their interpretation. I don't mind the occasional gender swapping. the Cleons premise is smart and interesting. I also don't mind that they spice up the concept with altering here and there. Even in this series, I liked how they tried to give depth for the characters. There are some exciting stories and concepts to start with. I think still, making a motion picture of Asimov's universe makes sense. I consider myself a big fan of Asimov, read through the books a couple of times, so let's say I am familiar with the premise and have some understanding of the original characters, their motives, and what's going on in general.įor the likes of me, this series is an outrage, and outright offensive.
